What is Xenical and what is it used for?

Xenical 120mg capsules contain the medicine Orlistat. Xenical was first developed by Roche and became available in 1998. It has since been used safely for 20 years to help people, suffering from obesity, to lose excess weight when dieting and exercise alone has been unsuccessful. Xenical pills can be prescribed for patients who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or over, or 28 or over if there are other risk factors present, such as heart disease, diabetes or smoking.
You should take one Xenical 120mg capsule up to three times daily, with or up to one hour after each main meal. If you eat a fat-free meal, you skip a meal or have a small snack instead, you do not need to take Xenical, as there will be no fat to absorb.
How does Xenical work?
Orlistat is the active ingredient used in Xenical which works to aid weight loss by blocking the enzymes in your gut that digest fat. Orlistat blocks around a third of the fat that is consumed from being absorbed. This fat is then is passed out with your stools.
Xenical offers the best results when it is taken alongside a reduced-fat diet and diet plan. However, you do not need to take a dose of Xenical if there is no fat contained within your food.
How quickly does Xenical work?
When combined with a diet and exercise plan, Xenical is usually effective in aiding weight loss. In terms of results, you should aim to lose around 5% of your body weight within the first 13 weeks of your treatment. Slimming should not be rushed and crash diet plans should not be used. Weight loss should be viewed as a steady process in order to achieve healthy results and increase the chances of the weight staying off.
After taking Xenical for 3 months, you should have hit your target of losing 5% of your body weight. If you did not see any results, Xenical may not be suitable for you and should be stopped. If your BMI drops below 28, Xenical may no longer be required and you should stop treatment. If the treatment is working, you are losing weight and your BMI is above 28, you can take Xenical for up to 2 years.
